What’s In A Name  

It’s true that the name RUBETTES was heavily influenced by Bickerton / Waddington’s passion for the American doo-wop and rock’n roll era, but there is another fact that is not well known. When they were trying to find a suitable name for the band, one of Tony’s girlfriends owned a purplish-red coloured Mini which she affectionately called “Ruby” !

Playing around with the idea of using the names of precious stones as adopted by bands like the “Diamonds”, Tony and his friends went through all the options and came up with the RUBETTES !

Wayne obviously agreed and the rest is history.....
